Lowe Classics are delighted to offer this exceptional Datsun 240Z road-legal competition car, registration KPD 307K, representing an extraordinary example of one of Japan's most iconic sports cars, extensively developed with a remarkable level of engineering and attention to detail.

This is far from an ordinary 240Z. Built with competition performance at its heart, the car has undergone a comprehensive transformation, combining the timeless styling of the original Datsun with serious motorsport engineering, while importantly retaining its road-legal status.

At the heart of the car is a newly built 2.8-litre competition engine, recently set up on the rolling road by Mek Motorsport, producing an impressive 254 BHP at 6,240 RPM and 233 lb ft of torque at 4,624 RPM. Its specification includes a fully prepared 280 block, Farndon billet crankshaft, JE pistons, billet connecting rods, Kameari camshaft and valve train, triple Weber 48 DCOE carburettors, programmable 123 Ignition and a ceramic-coated exhaust manifold feeding a side-exit exhaust system. Cooling is managed by an aluminium radiator, Davies Craig electric water pump and twin electric fans.

The engine is paired with S14A competition gearbox internals, adapted to the Z bellhousing, an AP triple-plate competition clutch, lightened flywheel and NISMO short-shift gear lever. Power is delivered through a strengthened drivetrain featuring a limited-slip differential with external cooling, fabricated heavy-duty driveshafts and Porsche CV joints.

The shell itself has received an extraordinary amount of work. Completely stripped, baked and acid dipped, it was extensively strengthened, including the chassis rails, suspension mounting points and front structure. The distinctive ZG-style extended wheel arches have been hand-formed in metal rather than fitted as bolt-on extensions, retaining the beautiful shape of the original 240Z while creating a purposeful competition appearance.

Weight-saving measures include lightened body panels, aluminium window frames, Perspex glazing and a fibreglass dashboard. The original spare wheel well has been replaced to accommodate an aluminium competition fuel cell with surge tank and twin Facet fuel pumps.

The chassis specification is equally impressive, featuring fully adjustable suspension with Koni dampers, Techno Toy Tuning camber plates, adjustable spring platforms and rose-jointed suspension components. Braking is provided by four-pot AP Racing front callipers with ventilated discs, twin-pot Nissan Skyline rear callipers and an adjustable brake bias system.

The car sits on 16-inch aluminium wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan A052 tyres, while safety equipment includes an Andy Robinson FIA roll cage and Lifeline Zero electric fire suppression system.

Its most recent outing was a shakedown at Donington Park, where the car ran faultlessly, demonstrating the quality of the engineering and preparation that has gone into this remarkable machine.

The build incorporates countless bespoke components and carefully considered modifications, all contributing to a car that has been developed with genuine attention to detail. Competition stands are included, while an additional ZG front-end assembly is available by separate negotiation.
